Emma's Scare

Emma gave us a scare back in July...she got the flu that was going around daycare and everywhere! But the flu she got was diarrhea and fever which lead to dehydration which then lead to a seizure. Let's start from the beginning. We had Sara's kids this week because they went on a cruise. 4 kids under the age of 3...crazy huh!? Anyways, we went to daycare as normal but Michelle said Emma had had a few loose poops and was getting a fever. She was not feeling well and she had a fever of 99.9. I gave her Tylenol before we all left. When we got home she was acting normal besides me changing her butt every 5 minutes because of diarrhea. She wasn't eating that much and was drinking little to. It was around 7:45 when I was changing her diaper she was flipping out! She started getting really stiff and grunting. She was holding her breath for a while and it was freaking us out! She then stopped which felt like forever but it was probably a minute or two. She then looked really tired and I didn't want her to go to sleep because I had NO idea what that was. I was crying and trying to call my mom and she wasn't answering. I finally called my dad and he told me to just take her into the hospital. So Steve gave her a quick blessing and I called Lacie over to watch the kids and we left to the hospital. Of course on our way over she was looking better. :) The power of the Priesthood! My mom finally called me back, she was at a RS activity and she told me she probably had a fever induced seizure. She was going to go over to my house to watch the kids so Lacie could go back to her family. Anyways, after a 5 hour visit in the ER my mom was right. She had a seizure induced by a fever. They monitored her for a while and gave her an IV because she was a little dehydrated. It was the scariest moment which seemed like forever. My pedi Dr. did say she is more likely to get them again since she had one. So let's hope she never gets a high fever again. I felt bad because I never gave her tylenol the rest of the night because she was playing with Sophie all day/night and I never felt to see if she was hot. She was such a trooper at the hospital. It is so sad to see your child in a bed hooked up to an IV and feeling sick and you can't do anything! I am so grateful for the power of the Priesthood, family and friends. I couldn't have done it without Lacie coming over to rescue me, my parents for taking over and then my sister Rondee taking Sophie and Owen the rest of the week so I could give Emma my full attention. We love our little Emma and we are so happy she is healthy and happy now!
